Scientist, product development

This hands-on position is responsible for development of new products, test methods, custom projects, manufacturing transfer of new products or application support. In addition, this position may be involved in production troubleshooting of Ethos products.

What You Will Do:

  • Research and Development of new products crossing all aspects of Ethos products.
  • Maintain and update product development documentation following ISO 13485 requirements.
  • Receive relevant production requests and maintain appropriate records
  • Write / update ISO documents as necessary.
  • Periodically evaluate the quality of finished goods.
  • Evaluate alternate raw material suppliers and new raw material lots.
  • Integrate newly developed products into the manufacturing and QC systems.
  • Scale-up processes as required.
  • Train personnel on laboratory procedures.
  • Assist with technical service, trouble shooting and applications support as necessary. 
  • Investigate and recommend equipment replacement / addition.

Qualifications

  • This position requires a minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry and general, broad-based scientific knowledge.  Candidates with an advanced degree are encouraged to apply.  Dyes and stains experience is a plus.
  • Superior laboratory skills, with a minimum of three years of full-time laboratory experience are essential. 
  • The ideal candidate will have multidisciplinary knowledge of chemistry, biological staining and chemical manufacturing.
  • The person filling this position must be strongly self-motivated and organized, with excellent critical thinking and attention to detail.
  • Product and application-specific training will be provided.

Scientist II

This hands-on manufacturing-focused position is responsible for all aspects of the timely and quality-focused production of ABI/Exocell products. In addition, this position will be involved in research and development and manufacturing transfer of new products, test methods, or applications support.

What You Will Do:

Production

  • Receive relevant production requests and maintain appropriate records
  • Monitor inventory of lab reagents and supplies; submit requests as appropriate
  • Produce products, following current ISO procedures.
  • Perform in-process test methods prior to release. 
    • For ABI
    1. ​​​​​​​Perform reagent optimization work necessary for each lot of lateral flow immunoassays, to meet established performance specifications.
    2. ​​​​​For LFIA producing quantitative results, equations (or algorithms) must be generated to produce statistically valid results within specified dose response ranges for each assay.
    3. Prepare conjugates of proteins to various signal reagents, such as colloidal gold, cellulose nanobeads and polymer microspheres. ​​​​​​​
    • For Exocell:
    1. ​​​​​​​Perform reagent optimization work necessary for new raw material lots, to meet established performance specifications.
    2. Test new production lots according to established test method.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
  • Write / update ISO documents as necessary.
  • Periodically evaluate the quality of finished goods.
  • Evaluate alternate raw material suppliers and new raw material lots.
  • Participate on product development teams, with specific responsibility for integrating newly developed products into the manufacturing and QC systems.
  • Interact with customers and internal stakeholders on custom manufacturing technology transfer projects.
  • Scale-up processes as required.
  • Train personnel on laboratory procedures.
  • Assist with technical service, troubleshooting and applications support as necessary.  
  • Investigate and recommend equipment replacement / addition.
  • Attend conferences / visit customers with sales staff when appropriate.
  • Can participate in product development projects as team leader or team member.
  • Can supervise laboratory / production staff.

Qualifications

This position requires a minimum of a Masters degree in biology, immunology or related scientific field, with at least 3 years of experience in immunoassay manufacture and/or development. The ideal candidate will have superior general, broad-based scientific knowledge, excellent laboratory skills, and attention to detail, with deep understanding of immunoassay concepts.  The person filling this position must be self-motivated and organized, with strong critical thinking skills. This is a hands-on lab position, and requires a commitment to flexibility and teamwork.
